Doula:
The doula is a professional trained in childbirth who provides emotional, physical, and educational support to a mother who is expecting, is experiencing labor, or has recently given birth. Their purpose is to help women have a safe, memorable, and empowering birthing experience.
Traditional Birth Attendant:
Traditional birth attendants are often women, respected in their communities. They consider themselves as private health care practitioners who respond to requests for service. The focus of their work is to assist women during delivery and immediately post-partum. A Traditional birth attendant may also refer to a medically untrained significant other (e.g., husband, friend, registered nurse or other)—who assists a woman during labour and delivery.
Unassisted Birth:
Unassisted Birth is the process of intentionally choosing to to birth without the assistance of a medical birth attendant. The purpose is to have an instinctual mother-led birth.
